Dr. Guess, in addition to providing classical homeopathic treatment, offers bioidentical hormone therapy for both women and men.  Bioidentical hormones differ from conventional synthetic hormones in being perfectly identical to hormones naturally secreted in the human body.  Bioidentical hormone therapy typically does not cause the same unpleasant side-effects as synthetic hormone therapy nor pose the same risks.  In fact, clinical research evidence exists positing many health enhancing effects of bioidentical hormone therapy.
The more common indications for this therapy include symptoms associated with female menopause (hot flashes, mood changes, fatigue, sleep disturbance, hair loss, decreased libido, vaginal dryness and pain, etc.) and male andropause (general debility, cognitive decline, diminished strength and endurance, sexual decline, mood changes); other conditions (such as PMS, menstrual disorders) for a younger population can also be addressed.  Adrenal and thyroid dysfunction, including Wilson's Temperature Syndrome, is another common complaint of patients seeking bioidentical hormone therapy.
Here is a description of some of the complaints that specific hormones used in bioidentical hormone therapy have benefited: estrogen – hot flashes, cardiovascular risk, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s disease risk, cancer risk (uterine, ovarian, colon - assuming proper follow-up of therapy with monitoring of each patient's metabolism of estrogen), diabetes; progesterone – osteoporosis, premenstrual syndrome, painful menses, depression, sleep disturbance, etc.; testosterone – decreased libido, weak erections, diabetes, diminished strength and endurance, etc.; DHEA – chronic stress, exhaustion, insomnia, inflammation, arthritis, immune dysfunction.  Many other conditions have been helped as well.
Consultations with Dr. Guess for bioidentical hormone therapy alone take less time than a homeopathic interview and, consequently, cost less.  After an interview and physical exam, Dr. Guess will order various blood, saliva or urine tests to evaluate hormone functioning.  Subsequently he will either call you or arrange a follow-up consultation to discuss the results and prescribe compounded bioidentical hormones to correct documented deficiencies or excesses.  Follow-up visits will be scheduled to follow symptomatic improvement and to insure, through additional laboratory testing, optimization of hormone levels and patient safety.

Compounded hormones are becoming increasingly available in pharmacies, several of which will efficiently ship your individualized prescriptions to your home. Because compounded bioavailable hormones are so much safer that conventionally available hormones it’s imperative that the public remain vigilant and proactive to prevent the FDA from issuing dictates that compromise access to them.
